New Year's...Take 2!

This past weekend I boarded a plane and headed back up to one of my favorite places for the long weekend…the DeSalvo’s Home!  Aka…Washington D.C.

On New Years 2005 Michelle and I had an impromptu celebration in a parking lot with a little Mariah Carey music and 6 bottles each of our favorite drinks.  2005 was not a good year for either of us, so most of the celebration consisted of us yelling hate words to 2005 and praying 2006 would turn out better.

Now 5 years later that New Years celebration has become a longstanding tradition with the two of us.  Since then we’ve changed the location, the music, added a new member, and began videotaping our insanity.

Over the years our celebrations have taken place in…
  • ·      Pearland, TX
  • ·      Dallas, TX
  • ·      Pasadena, TX
  • ·      Washington DC…2x
  • ·      Belton, TX

We realize that not every year will we be able to be together on the actual night of New Year’s Eve so we’ve made concessions and have been known to do it on Christmas night, a few days after Christmas, and like this year several weeks already into the new year.

Here are some of the key elements of our annual ritual:
1. Be together
2. Each of us must state our 4 goals for the year…spiritual, relationship, career, and well-being
3. Make a New Years playlist of our favorite dance music of the year and play said music whilst we state our goals
4. If at all possible, have a few drinks to make things a little more interesting
5. One of us must drop a bomb about something we’ve done during the year that the other doesn’t know about or about a big decision that has just been made
6. Videotape the whole thing so that each year we can look back and laugh at how ridiculous we were…or still are!

Even though we celebrated on January 16th this year, it still proved to be just as memorable as the previous years!

The best part about this year was that we sat down and watched the videos of the past celebrations for the first time ever.  We both woke up the next morning with sore stomachs from laughing so hard.

If you know me, then you know that there is nothing I love more than a good tradition.  This one may be ridiculous and silly to some, but it is a vital part of our friendship and something that the both of us look forward to each year.  We kept laughing about how funny these will be when we’re in our 40’s and still doing this ritual!

A BIG thank you goes out to Daniel for embracing our goofiness and for playing along and volunteering to be our cameraman for the past two years.  I’m working hard to find you a co-director for future years…but I make no promises!

Love, love, love my Michelle and Daniel and the times that we get to hang out…whether for that be for weeks or a couple of days!
