Rodeo Favorites

Let me introduce you to some of my most favorite parts about the Rodeo this year.

First, meet the Zipper!

Some might think she is a death trap, but they would be sadly mistaken.  This is a machine that brings smiles, joy, laughter, maybe a few curse words or two, and makes this Haston lady one of the happiest girls in Houston.  This is now mine and my brother's tradition, to ride the Zipper once every year!

(P.S.  My dream date has always been for a man to take me for a burger and then to a parking lot carnival so we can ride the Zipper.  If any man did that and then proposed to me at the end he would get a definite "YES!")

Second, meet Thurman…or Clay…or Bubba…he has a lot of names!

I love my Bubba!  I loved that he paid for my parking.  I loved that he went out to the Rodeo early just for me on the last day.  I loved that he paid for our carnival ride tickets.  I loved that he waited in line in the sun sweating with me for 30 minutes to ride the Zipper.  I loved that he just laughed and laughed at me while I screamed my head off on this ride.  I loved that he sat and watched a country music concert even though he's not that big a fan of country music.  And there are so many other thousands of reasons that I love this guy!

Third, meet my Daddy’s belt!

Would you believe me if I told you that this is the belt my Dad wore when he married my mom?  And now it fits me perfectly!  Yes, he was that skinny!  I found this when we cleaned out his house after he passed away and LOVED that it fit me and it was something I can always wear now.  This is one of my prized possessions!

Lastly, meet my Dad’s Rodeo belt buckle!

The Rodeo after Dad passed away he would have received his Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo belt buckle, but instead they presented Clay and I with it.  I flew down for just a few hours to make it to the meeting.  It was so sweet and we were so honored that they allowed us to accept it and spoke such sweet words about our Dad.  However, there was a little mixup and that night the belt buckle had his name misspelled…but we loved the ceremony regardless.  We just now got the one with his correct name and Clay wore it proudly this year.

I have Dad’s belt and Clay has his buckle and every year we get to proudly display our Daddy’s name at his Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!

We missed you again this year Dad, but glad to know you’re still watching!
