When I was at UMHB the church I went to started this "Adopt A College Student" program. They matched up college students with families and the families would take their adopted student to lunch on Sundays, invite them over for meals, provide a place to study, and just whatever the students needed. I luckily got matched up with Stephen and Sandra Harris. At the time they had a 3 year old boy named Tyler and a year later had their little girl Hannah. I loved being a part of their family and they were so good to me. They would feed me anytime I needed it, bring me gifts during finals week, let me play with their kids, and just treated me like one of their own. The best was when I lived in Indonesia they send me the best care package filled with Mac and cheese and mini Dr Peppers!!
Randomly after I moved to Dallas Sandra took a job in Plano and moved to Allen of all places! It was so great having them so close to me again. However, a year after that Sandra took a different job and they moved to Nashville. Then last summer they moved for the final time to Greensboro, NC. We had lost touch a little bit after they moved to Nashville, but reconnected this past Spring. We decided it had been too long since we'd seen each other. Being the great adopted parents that they are they offered to buy my ticket to fly out and spend a week with them. It was the best week!
Tyler is now 10 and Hannah is 7...I can't believe how big they are! When I first got there Hannah asked me if I was like her big sister? I of course told her that I was so for the rest of the week she would call me Sissy and introduce me to people as her big sister. All week long I just felt like part of the family. We ate lots of yummy home cooked meals and delicious meals for Greensboro restaurants. They took me out to the Blue Ridge Parkway and we did a mini hike to a waterfall and saw some beautiful mountains. I cheered the kids on at their swim meet, went bowling, watched some movies, went to a Greensboro Grasshoppers game for the 4th of July, and just hung out. I can't wait to go back! Here are some pictures from the trip...
