When my dad passed away my brother got his Harley and I took his red truck. And it’s not any truck…it’s a red Ford F250 four door diesel truck! I mean it’s huge! I thought for sure that I would drive it back to Dallas, keep it for a little bit, and then sell it. Well it’s now been over a year and I still own that big red truck!
Luckily last year one of the seniors in the youth group, Spenny, needed a car so I let him use the truck for the year. It helped seeing as how we didn’t have any room to park it at our house at the time. Spenny now has a new car and the truck has been back with me since May.
I never knew trucks could be so handy! Since May here are some of the things it’s helped with…
- Moved Cobb and I into our new house with Kate
- Moved ALL my classroom stuff back home to Pasadena
- The Joneses used it to move a friend’s son to college at A&M
- I drove it so Cobb could use my car when hers was broken
- I then drove it when Jodi’s car needed a new battery
- Now it is back in the hands of sweet Spenny because his car is in the shop!
I keep giving myself deadlines for when I’m going to put it up for sale and those deadlines keep coming and going. I just can’t bring myself to part with that truck yet. He loved that truck…I mean even when he was in the hospital and had a tube down his throat he would constantly write notes on paper asking where his truck was!
Recently I’ve been telling people that I’m going to hold onto the truck and then one day sell it so that I can adopt myself a kid!
As for now this truck is coming in handy with helping me and all my friends out so I’m thinking the deadline is going to get pushed back even longer!
The best part was today I leaned over in the drivers seat and noticed there was a secret storage spot underneath the console. There I found several of my dad’s old work ID cards with pictures and everything. I laughed out loud at them because two of them are from the 80’s!
It never ceases to amaze me the gifts the Lord continues to give me concerning my dad. Sometimes I hate having the truck because that means my dad is really gone…BUT because of that truck I’m able to help out so many people when they’re in need. I love helping people and so did my dad…and he continues to help even whilst partying in heaven with Jesus!
Aren’t these hilarious? Notice how skinny he was in the 80’s and then not so much anymore!
