A Good Samaritan

One of my many addictions are chicken minis on the Chick Fil A breakfast menu.  Now on the days that I sub I treat myself to some of them on my way to school.  I’ve subbed a lot this week so Chick Fil A has made quite a lot of money off of me.

Well this morning I was running late because I had a hard time waking up and then the gas light came on when I started the car.  I finally got to Chick Fil A and there was already a line of cars waiting in the drive thru lane.  Then to make matters worse a white Ford Explorer pulled in seconds before me and got ahead of me in line.  Not only did they beat me to the line by seconds they seemed to enjoy the slow pace of life because they would inch up the line at the slowest pace imaginable.  I kept eyeing the clock and trying to figure up how late I would be to school that morning.

It was finally my turn to pull up to the window and being the Miss Efficient that I am I already had my exact change ready to pay so that I wouldn’t have to make anyone else wait on me.  When I got there I held out my hand with my money and the lady smiles at me and says…

“The man in front of you paid for your meal!”

I looked at her dumbfounded and completely confused and said, “What?  Why would he do that?”

She smiled again and said, “He is a police officer and comes through from time to time and pays for the person behind him.”

I took my food, thanked her, and then drove off in such confusion.  I’ve heard of people doing that before and have really always wanted to try that myself, but have never had a complete stranger show me such random kindness like that.  He had no idea who I was or how much I ordered and yet he sacrificed some of his money for my hungry tummy!

I smiled all the rest of the way to school thinking about this mystery policeman who bought me breakfast…and also because this morning I opted for the whole breakfast meal with hash browns too which I never do!

Afterwards the guilt set in about what a B*@$% I had been cursing that Ford Explorer all the way up until they paid for my breakfast!  I felt awful and thankful that I hadn't honked my horn or been visibly annoyed with them.  It helped me to keep a little perspective today!

So the goal is to now go again tomorrow for my breakfast and return the favor to whoever may be in line behind me!
