I’ve always loved to read and one of my favorite parts of traveling is all the time you have to read whilst you’re on the plane or waiting in airports.
So last year around this time I made a pretty crazy goal for myself. I decided that in 2010 I wanted to read one book a week. It didn’t necessarily have to be one book every 7 days, but so that at the end of the year I could say that I read 52 books.
All year long I did so much better than I expected myself too. And then of course being unemployed this Fall made things a little easier too.
I was going along doing well and staying pretty well on track…that is until December. I read 9 books in the month of November while I was in Uganda. So then when I got home I couldn’t make myself read anything. I was done…worn out…exhausted with books. The worst part was that I only had like 5 more books to read before January 1 to accomplish my goal…and yet I still couldn’t make myself read them.
So I did what any person afraid of failure would do…I finished up my 2010 book list with children’s books! We found one children’s book in my car on the way to the airport for the Nashville trip that I read while at a red light. Then I read 2 more books during a much longer than anticipated layover in Houston. And finished up my goal by reading 2 final books at the gift shop in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Oh it feels good to say that I didn’t fail!! Not to mention I read some really great books this year too!
