To Granny's House I Go

I went home last Monday so that I could take my principal test and then planned to spend a week at home hanging out with family and visiting some friends I didn’t get much time with over Christmas break.

I packed a big bag full of way too many clothes, set up dinner and lunch plans with 3 different friends….and then proceeded to spend three and a half days sick in bed at Granny’s, wearing the same clothes each day, and never getting to hang out with anyone.

And let me tell you…there is no place like Granny’s house.

At Granny’s...you can wear the same clothes for 3 days without taking a shower and no one cares.

At Granny’s...you can get homemade biscuits every morning.

At Granny’s...Grandad will go fill your car up with gas the day before you leave and even park it facing the street so you don’t have to back out when leaving.

At Granny’s...you can quietly lay on the couch and watch Wheel of Fortune every night.

At Granny’s...Grandad will work for 30 minutes to fix the battery operated thermometer that talks to you after you’ve already used the old mercury one to check for fever.

At Granny’s...she’ll drive you to the doctor when you’re sick and tell the doctor all your symptoms when you don’t feel like.

At Granny’s...they will go to the store and buy you all kinds of over the counter medicine even when you don’t ask for it.

At Granny’s...she’ll pay your copay and for your medicine.

At Grannny’s...she’ll offer every day to make you whatever you want to eat or go get you anything you want.

At Granny’s...Grandad will hook up a portable heater in your bathroom so that it automatically comes on when you turn the light on even when you say its no big deal.

At Granny’s...she’ll make you your favorite yellow cake with homemade chocolate icing just because.

At Granny’s...they’ll crank the heat up at night because you’re sick, even though it dries up their sinuses.

At Granny’s...they’ll just hug you as you cry and tell them that you hate saying good-bye and say things like, “Bless your heart.”

I realize how lucky I am that I am 28 and can still go be pampered and spoiled by my grandparents when I’m sick.  I HATED being sick, but loved the extra time I got to spend with my Granny and Grandad.

  1. That is so sweet! They sound like the most precious, thoughtful people who just want to do everything they can to make you happy!
