Mom finished up with her conference today around noon so we headed out to do some shopping on the Magnificent Mile. This goes up and down Michigan Avenue and is known for some higher end shopping, but there was some good places too for the white trash as well though!
Yesterday was cold and overcast and today was hot and sunny so we spent part of the day trying to find Debo some cooler clothes and more comfortable shoes…she didn’t pack accordingly!
We went all the way to Chicago and where did we do most of our shopping??...at the Gap! They had some good sales and I LOVE Gap jeans because for some reason I get to buy a smaller size which is always fun!
We grabbed lunch at this mall place and then made our way down to the John Hancock Observatory. That is an incredible view from up top and learned some more interesting things about the great city of Chicago.
We made our way back down the Magnificent Mile and took a little nap at the hotel.
I’d been told by a friend about some good places to eat in the Wicker Park area and my tour guide told me about a good taco place in that area. So I tried to google the taco place, but it wouldn’t give me an exact address. So mom and I got a cab and had him take us down to that area and drop us off. I got a little turned around with my GPS and made us walk about 10 minutes in the wrong direction. However, we got to see some really cute houses!
So I figure the GPS out, we turn around, and start making our way down Damen Ave. in the right direction.
Now my most favorite game to play when I go anywhere from another city, another country, or even just to the mall is to see someone that I know. I don’t know why I get a kick out of this, but I do! It is so fun to randomly bump into someone or see someone that I haven’t seen in several years. It usually ends up being someone that I’ve met a handful of times and I go up to say HI and they can’t place me and I look like the weird girl who has a freakish type of memory.
Well so here we are across the country in Chicago and lost when we walk up to the corner of these two streets and I look to the right and standing right there is the one person in Chicago that I know!! Remember my friend the painter I mentioned in my Day One post…Jared Fuson? Yup…he’s standing on that same corner right when we walk up! I wish someone could have taken a picture of my face from that moment because I’m sure it was hilarious! I introduce him to my mom and we catch up for a bit about how he’s doing and how our trip has been. Luckily he helped get us going in the right direction for the taco place too. I still can’t believe that I saw him…LOVE IT!!
We finally get down to Big Star and order us some tacos, chips, and guacamole. We decided to be adventurous and take the train back to our hotel. Seriously…so glad the DeSalvos have taught me so well on how to use the metro and even the art of changing lines! We made it home no problems!
