I was the only one who signed up for a morning tour so I got him all to myself. We rode our bikes down to the Navy Pier, all along the shoreline of Lake Michigan to check out some man made beaches, to a Farmer’s Market, to Lincoln Park Zoo (sadly no hippos), through Lincoln Park, and some other places that I can’t quite remember. All in all it was about a 3 mile ride. It was fun to learn all about the city and get to see some areas that I’d heard about, but hadn’t seen yet.
Afterwards I went back to the hotel and got cleaned up. Then I grabbed some lunch and headed back to my favorite reading spot…Millennium Park! I sat and people watched and got lost in my book, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. I read for quite awhile and then headed back to meet mom.
That night Debo, her friend from work, Diane, and I walked down to check out the Navy Pier. One thing I learned earlier on my bike tour was that the first ferris wheel was in Chicago and the cars on it held 60 people…that’s insane! Navy Pier now has a ferris wheel, a few restaurants, fun attractions for kids, a Shakespeare theatre, and several souvenir shops. It kinda reminds me of a much bigger Kemah Boardwalk.
Then we used my nifty iPhone GPS and found a pizza place I’d heard about called Gino’s East Pizza. It took about a hour for the pizza to be made, but it was worth the wait! I really do love me some pizza. We’d walked quite a lot that night so we took a taxi back where Diane tried to convince the cab driver that we were beer distributors from across the country here for a conference!
