Well we got in later on Monday night and Mom thought it would be super fun to take the train into the city. We took the train in and Mom starts remembering how in the tv show ER it was in Chicago and they would ride the L to get to work and in true Debo fashion she leans over and says, “You think we’ll see any of them here?”
We finally get to our stop and start walking towards our hotel. At one corner we stopped to check the street signs and a man offered us some directions for a short cut to our hotel. Come to find out he was homeless so mom gave him a couple of dollars and as it turned out the short cut he gave us didn’t really work.
We finally made it to the hotel and got settled into our room and stayed up late watching Intervention on the tv.
For some reason when we got to Chicago I started having a little bit of stomach problems so I took it easy Tuesday morning. I slept in, then headed down the street to a Corner Bakery because they have free WiFi and the fancy shmancy hotel we’re staying at charges $14 per day for WiFi…are you kidding me?
So I ate, took care of some things on the computer, and then headed down the street to the Millennium Park. Which is such a cool park! It has this huge outdoor amphitheater thing where some live music was going on. Then as you walk around there are tons of place to sit on a bench or the grass in the shade to read, there is the infamous Bean, and a cool water fountain thing that you can play in. I found me a spot and sat down to read for about a hour…nothing like reading outside on a beautiful day when you can look up between chapters to people watch.
Afterwards I headed down the street a little further and visited the Art Institute of Chicago museum.
Now seeing as how I’m a Haston I’m not what you would call “cultured” and a couple of years ago I never would have thought that I would voluntarily go into an art museum and by myself no less. It was about a year ago that I was killing time in DC and went to an art museum there and actually really enjoyed it. Not all parts of it…but most of it. Then last year I commissioned a friend of a friend, Jared Fuson, to make me a painting about my dad. Which turned out to be the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life! Since then I’ve loved art a whole lot more.
At the Art Institute I spent most of my time looking at modern art, photography, and contemporary art. I’m learning that I’m a big fan of Jackson Pollock who for some reason does remind me of my friend Jared’s paintings. They kinda remind me of my life because they’re a messy randomness which looks so cool!
After the art extravaganza I headed back to the hotel to meet mom. We rested for a little bit and then headed downstairs to get on our bus to go to the Cubs game…which I bought us shirts for earlier in the day! As it turns out we didn’t have tickets to the game, but we watched the game from a rooftop place that had tons of free food. Sadly it started pouring rain right when we got there so the game was delayed. Once the rain let up we went upstairs and watched from the roof the first few minutes of the game. Then my stomach started hurting again so we jumped on the first bus back and headed home.
So far I’m liking Chicago!
